Afraid of the future?
Mark Twain once wrote, "I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened."
Back in January 2014, I was facing some major changes in my fitness career. After living in the Hamptons since 2000 and chasing my passion for training people, I plodded along renting out various existing gym spaces, trying to make a difference in people's lives without too much risk or stress. Then someone made the choice for me and told me I had to leave the space I was comfortable in for 4 years. And I was faced with now where? Will people follow me? Space is exorbinant out here and did I really want my own studio? What if people don't come? What if I get lost in the shuffle of other large fitness name brands and numerous other gyms and studios popping up? I was afraid, uncertain and scared. And yet, miraculously a space suddenly became available, and I found myself swept up in all the responsibilities of entrepreneurship, getting an LLC, hiring a website designer, expanding my team of trainers. It was exciting, exhilarating and liberating that I actually risked a lot and found myself chasing a dream of 20 years and having my own studio. And then Uncertainly and Negativity crept in. How was I going to pay the rent, have energy to train a lot more often, be a businesswoman, raise 3 kids and send to college, and remain an active partner in another business I already had been involved with for 12 years? I made lists upon lists upon different scenarios and knew that if I was ever going to have the opportunity, it was the time to focus, put faith in my abilities, prayed a lot, and spoke to my mother, husband and best friend hourly to get their confirmation and support. It's working and every day I still work as if I have nothing and simply keep my nose to the ground and surround myself around positive, successful people.
Looking ahead to 2018 may be scary and have you feeling less than optimistic. If you fear the worst scenario is yet to come, you'll enter the new year feeling anxious about the what the future holds.
"Uncertainty and negativity bias feed into each other. The less comfortable you feel with uncertainty, the more likely you are to be biased toward the negative outcomes in an uncertain situation. Equally, the more negativity bias you carry, the less uncertainty you will be able to tolerate." Ahhh can feel so complicated. But read on...
Your brain on uncertainty.
Your brain is no stranger to uncertainty. It is immersed in a chronic sphere of uncertainty which it continually seeks to overcome through statistical inference. This lets it create a model of reality that shapes your cognitive narrative.
Through this process, your brain constantly writes a narrative of your life. As your story progresses, it simulates all the possible scenarios your plot is about to lead you through, before your future becomes your present.

🎶Do you remember-when it comes time in September? Check out our Labor Day specials at Silichcore.com and let's get moving! Reset, get your routine down, make some goals. Here's a motivating article and great excerpt on resetting at this time of year! *
"If you’re ready for a reset, to focus on your career, your future, your health and wellness goals, then astrologically, the universe has your back right now. Virgo power is all about productivity and shifting into your peak list-making, problem-solving, dragon-slaying mode (think: back-to-school excitement, way past graduation).
The Mercury retrograde-Virgo combo right now (which lasts until September 22) is a good time to think about your life purpose and adjust your daily routines accordingly. In other words, make every minute count in your day—and make sure what you’re doing points you in the ultimate direction you want to go.
If you do, by this time next month, “you’ll be on a stronger, faster, better path to achieving your goals and dreams—but only if you’ve put in the effort during Mercury retrograde,” Lennon Mara says.
"Here are seven pieces of advice for the current astrological season. "--Lennon Mara, writer/astrologist
1. Set goals.
The first step is knowing where you want to go. Get clear on that before anything else.
2. Get out of your head.
You may have the most amazing idea for the next blockbuster app, but it doesn’t count for anything if it lives exclusively in your brain. Virgo season is peak time to begin getting into gear with projects that haven’t quite achieved their potential. Right now, it’s all about making your dreams material.
3. Shift your perspective.
There’s a lot of energy out there for focusing on the details. Rather than letting it amp up negative thought patterns, negativity, and self-criticism (a definite risk in Virgo territory!) why not use it to power positive change? First, focus on the goal—then, work to break it down and define the steps you’ll need to take to get there. When you’ve finished, all that will be left to do is put one foot in front of the other on the path you’ve so clearly laid out.
There’s no better time than right now through late September to commit to the practice of just doing it—no matter what.
4. Write to-do lists, create action plans, and set reminders in your phone.
These are the small tools we have at our disposal now to facilitate big-time progress toward our goals.
5. Find your joy.
Everyone has it: that skill, gift, talent or ability that we love—and that others can’t get enough of. Know what it is? Good, because there’s a good chance that that unique talent of yours is your ticket to a future filled with equanimity, energy, engagement, and love. Now’s the time to find your joy—and work to bring it into the world in a way that others can appreciate.
You want to run a marathon, you know you have it in you—you can even see yourself crossing the finish line to the cheers and applause of the crowd. But every time you lace up your shoes and hit the trails (or sidewalk), you’re bummed by how quickly you tire out and have to stop, which makes you want to throw out the whole idea. Here’s the good news: There’s no better time than right now through late September to commit to the practice of just doing it—no matter what. That means gutting it out, even when you’re tired. It means heading back out, even when you’d rather sleep in. It’s these small commitments that enable us to create big change in our lives.
7. Change your mindset, change your life.
Anything is possible when we set our minds to it. Virgo is all about how we use the power of the mind to achieve results that change our material lives. Harness this energy, and you’ll have the tools to turn your dreams into everyday reality."
